For Christ and His Church

The aim of this session is praise to God for the rediscovery of the gospel through the Protestant Reformation. The Reformation is a sacred providence that outstrips the likes of any history since the time of Christ and the apostles. It is a history that, rightly understood, extols the praises of God in the vastest convergence of divine grace outpoured in nearly two thousand years. And we are stewards of history. We celebrate the Reformation to make much—not the Reformation—but of Christ. We steward this sacred providence to glorify God and increase our joy in Him.

Christ is the light of the world and His church His light bearer. If the brilliance of Christ does not shine in and through His church, darkness will mark both the church and the world around her. The stakes are exceedingly high. When the light of Christ is diminished or concealed in the church, God is robbed of glory and man is robbed of grace. And the quality of the church’s light rises and falls on her love for Christ.
