Stewarding the history of the Reformation to glorify God and increase our joy in Him.

Roman Catholic Views on Solas

Table RCC1
Roman Catholic Evangelical
Scripture and church tradition and church councils form the authority of the church Scripture alone is our final authority (2 Timothy 3:16-17; John 17:17; 1 Thessalonians 2:13; Hebrews 4:12)
Justification by faith and sacramental works Justification by faith alone (Romans 1:17; 3:23; 4:4-6; Galatians 2:16; 3:11; Philippians 3:8-9)
Grace is administered through the church and strengthens the believer to merit justification through good works Grace is an undeserved and free gift from God that alone is efficacious to fully save sinners (Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:5; 2 Timothy 1:9; Romans 11:6)
Christ's merits and the merits of the saints form the treasury from which sinners may appeal for justification Christ is the only wrath-bearing substitute for sinners. Faith unites us to Christ, whose righteousness alone justifies (1 Timothy 2:5; Acts 4:12; John 14:6; 2 Corinthians 5:21; 1 Peter 3:18; Calatians 3:13)
Saints are venerated with God and appealed to for aid in salvation God alone is to be venerated in His sovereign work of salvation (Isaiah 42:8; 43:11; Psalm106:8; Romans 11:36; Ephesians 1:11-12; 1 Timothy 1:17)

We Celebrate Christ!

We celebrate the Reformation to make much of Christ, not the Reformation. We do not venerate men. We acknowledge God's gifting and mighty work through instruments of His choosing, for His glory. We worship God alone and praise Him for His grace towards us through this pivotal history that unleashed the gospel afresh on a dark and forgetful world.

Our purpose is to steward the history of the Reformation to glorify God and increase our joy in Him.
